The Main Stage has three areas. The Stalls are at the front, raked so you look over the heads in front. Behind them, the Stalls Arcade is a curved section raised above the rest of the Stalls. The Dress Circle is one level up, small and tiered.
Hampstead changes the layout for some productions, and it has staged shows in the round and with the audience on two sides. The advice here is for the usual layout, facing the stage. Check the plan for your date before you pick.
Where to sit, front to back
- Best seats: the middle of the Stalls, a few rows back
- Best value: the Stalls Arcade, which looks over the Stalls for less
- Best overview: the front of the Dress Circle, or the front row of the Arcade
- Think twice: the back row of the Dress Circle, which is high stools with a restricted view
The Stalls and Dress Circle pages go into each level, and access covers the wheelchair spaces.

Hampstead Downstairs
The studio seats about 80 on fixed benches, and the seating is reserved. Its layout changes with each production too, and in a space this size nobody is far from the actors. There's level access and a lift down to it.
Seating Plan FAQs
What is the Stalls Arcade at Hampstead Theatre?
The back part of the Stalls, curved and raised above the rows in front, in two slightly raked tiers, with a single row down each side. Because it sits higher, you see over the Stalls to the whole stage, and it's usually cheaper than the middle of the Stalls.
