Where to Sit

Hampstead Downstairs is a small studio with fixed benches rather than individual seats. If you'd rather have a reserved place, or a seat with more support, Hampstead's team can sort it before you book.

What's Dogstar About?

The crew of the Dogstar are whalers, but the whales are gone, and the ship has been stuck in the ice through an endless polar night. Men are falling ill and dying, and the survivors are looking for someone to blame. Then the visions start. Are they scurvy, the dark, or a sign of rescue?

Hampstead calls it a darkly comic story about the forces that shape our lives. It's a new play by Daisy Hall, whose Bellringers sold out the same Downstairs space in 2024, and this is its first production.

Who's Dogstar For?

Anyone who likes a tense, funny ensemble piece in a small space, and fans of Bellringers. Hampstead warns of death, illness, strong language and sudden loud noises. It hasn't published an age guide for this show, and anyone under 15 has to come with an adult.

Dogstar News and Reviews

Dogstar FAQs

How long is Dogstar?

Hampstead hasn't published a running time for Dogstar yet.

Is it a comedy?

A dark one. It's about death and survival on a trapped ship, played with a lot of humour.

Can I leave and come back in?

No. Once you leave the auditorium during a performance, Hampstead won't let you back in. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before, no later.
