The Tom Stoppard Theatre, the former Duke of York's, sits on St Martin's Lane with restaurants on both sides of it and a hotel bar directly opposite. • Dishoom Covent Garden, Upper St Martin's Lane, 4 minutes. A short walk up the street. Bombay comfort food, and it gets very busy, so go early. The queue moves fast
  • Chipotle, 92-93 St Martin's Lane, under a minute. A few doors down from the theatre. Burritos and bowls, quick and cheap, and the answer when you are in a rush
  • The Ivy, West Street, 6 minutes. Opposite St Martin's Theatre, a short walk up towards Seven Dials, and the theatreland institution, feeding audiences since 1929. Book ahead and tell them your curtain time

Drink

  • St Martins Lane hotel, 45 St Martin's Lane, 1 minute. Opposite the theatre and good for a drink before the show. The Den is on the right as you walk in, a relaxed bar for drinks and afternoon tea. Straight ahead is Blind Spot, the hotel's secret bar behind a tea-counter front, which is well worth finding. Everyone in your party must be 21 or over for Blind Spot
  • The Salisbury, St Martin's Lane, 1 minute. A Victorian pub on the same street, and the closest proper pub to the theatre
  • The Harp, Chandos Place, 2 minutes. A short walk towards Covent Garden, and the one for cask ale
  • Mr Fogg's Tavern, St Martin's Lane, 1 minute. On the same street, themed as a Victorian explorer's den over two floors. Good fun for a cocktail with a group

  • hub by Premier Inn London Covent Garden, 110 St Martin's Lane, under a minute. A few doors along from the theatre, at a sensible price
