Who's Murder, She Didn't Write For?
- Anyone who likes an Agatha Christie. The suspects, the country-house feel and the big reveal are all there, played for laughs.
- Comedy and improv fans. Nobody on stage knows who the murderer is when it starts, and nor does the audience!
- A Monday night out with friends. It's 7:30pm and you're out at about 9:30pm.
- Anyone who's been before. You'll get a new victim, a new killer and a new setting.
- Not for you if you want every scene to be polished. Some ideas take off and some don't, and a strange suggestion can leave a thinner plot.
What Tickets Cost
Tickets start from around £25, and most seats are around £35 to £50, with the best seats up to around £60. The same prices run on every date, so pick the Monday that suits you. The Stalls and the front of the Dress Circle are where the higher prices sit.
All-in: the price you pick is the price you pay. Booking for ten or more? Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we'll keep you together.
How Murder, She Didn't Write Works
It starts with the detective, Agatha Crusty, welcoming everyone in and asking for ideas. The audience shouts out a setting and a murder weapon, and that night's story is built around them. One night it was a school trip and an ever-growing cucumber; another time it was an intergalactic speed date.
Then Agatha throws a deerstalker into the crowd. Whoever catches it becomes her assistant, Jerkins, and it's Jerkins who later decides who gets murdered and who did it, which the cast don't find out until then either.
The suspects are dressed in colours, a bit like Cluedo: Miss Gold, Mr Blue, a Violet, a Red. They play it out in quick scenes, with a pianist making up the music as they go, and Agatha keeps cutting in to make life harder for them, asking for an answer in Latin or a speech in rhyme. After the interval, she gathers the suspects and tells you who did it and how, just like Poirot.
You can make your own guess before she names the killer.
About Murder, She Didn't Write at the Duchess Theatre
Degrees of Error are a Bristol improv company, founded in 2010 and resident at the Bristol Improv Theatre. Murder, She Didn't Write is their best-known show, a sell-out at the Edinburgh Fringe for years, where it runs about 70 minutes. The full two-hour version made its West End debut here at the Duchess in March 2025 and came back for three more Mondays that year.
If you've seen The Play That Goes Wrong, which plays the Duchess the rest of the week, that's a comic murder mystery too, but rehearsed down to the last collapsing shelf, whereas in this one nobody knows a single line in advance.
Performance Schedule
Every show is on a Monday at 7:30pm. The dates are:
- Monday 16 November 2026
- Monday 7 December 2026
- Monday 11 January 2027
- Monday 8 February 2027
- Monday 1 March 2027
- Monday 22 March 2027
- Monday 19 April 2027
It's roughly once a month, not every Monday. Booking runs to 19 April 2027 for now, and more dates may be added. The first date, 16 November, is selling fastest.
Best Seats for Murder, She Didn't Write
The Duchess is one of the smallest theatres in the West End, with around 500 seats, so you're close wherever you sit. For improv, being able to see faces helps: the middle of the Stalls, roughly rows E to K, is the pick. The Dress Circle looks straight at the stage from every row, and its back rows are among the cheaper seats, but do sit in the Stalls if you can. More in the Tickets and Best Seats tab.
Cast and Creative Team
The company takes turns, so you won't know who's on until the night. Lizzy Skrzypiec, who created the format with Degrees of Error and directs it, sometimes plays Agatha. The full company is in the Cast and Creatives tab.

Murder, She Didn't Write FAQs
An improvised comedy murder mystery. The cast make up an Agatha Christie-style whodunnit on the spot, from the audience's suggestions, and the killer isn't decided until the show is under way.
About 2 hours, including an interval. A 7:30pm show finishes at about 9:30pm.
From around £25 a ticket, with most seats around £35 to £50, and the price you pick is the price you pay.
Yes, it's recommended for ages 12 and over. Because it's improvised, it can include strong language and sexual references. Anyone under 15 has to sit next to an adult.
The 2025 Duchess dates got four stars from Theatre News, Everything Theatre and Adventures in Theatreland. What they liked most was Agatha pulling that night's story together at the end. The catch is that a night is only as good as its suggestions, so some stories land better than others.
Yes. The company is on a UK tour from October 2026 to April 2027, and the London Mondays at the Duchess fit in around it.
No. The setting, the weapon, the victim and the murderer change every time, so it's never the same show twice.
Not unless you want to be involved. The one person given a job is whoever catches Agatha's deerstalker, who picks the victim and the killer. Everyone else just shouts out ideas, or sits back and watches.
Latecomers are let in at a suitable break. The suggestions are taken right at the start, so arrive 15 to 20 minutes before, no later, or you'll miss the part the whole story is built on.
The middle of the Stalls if you can, or anywhere in the Dress Circle. More in our Duchess Theatre guide.
Two more Monday-night improv shows play nearby. Austentatious makes up a lost Jane Austen novel at the Vaudeville, and Showstopper! The Improvised Musical makes up a whole musical at the Cambridge.
Where to Sit
The Duchess has two levels, the Stalls and the Dress Circle, plus a few Boxes. It's a small theatre, so the choice is mostly about angle and price rather than distance.
- Stalls. 20 steps down. The middle of rows E to K is the best seat in the house for this. The ends of rows A to E curve in and lose a little of the stage, so stay central at the front.
- Dress Circle. 11 steps up. Head-on and well raked, with a clear view from every row. The front half is the pick, and the back rows are where the cheaper seats are.
- Boxes. The two at the back of the Dress Circle are among the cheapest seats, with a more limited view.

The rest of the company are Peter Baker, Caitlin Campbell, Stephen Clements, Rachael Procter-Lane, Harry Allmark, Rosalind Beeson, Sylvia Bishop, Emile Clarke, Monica Gaga, Alice Lamb, Emily Rose and Matthew Whittle.

Murder, She Didn't Write Reviews
The 2025 Duchess dates drew four-star reviews, and the critics agree on who holds the show together: Agatha, the narrator.
- Theatre News, four stars: "It is in the final minutes, however, that Skrzypiec truly steals the show as she expertly threads together the story to reveal just how the victim was murdered and by whom."
- Everything Theatre, four stars: "There's theatre that makes you think, and theatre that makes you laugh. This falls squarely into the latter category." The reviewer found some gags repeat, because one set of suggestions has to last nearly two hours.
- Adventures in Theatreland, four stars: "a guaranteed two hours of fun", though that night's science-fiction suggestion made for a weaker plot.
The cast and the story change every night, so the reviews tell you about the format rather than the show you'll see.
