Gallery at Hackney Empire
Opening soon: Jack and The Beanstalk From £12 Book tickets
The top of the theatre, 87 steps up from the side entrance on Wilton Way. It's unreserved bench seating with no backs or arms, so it's first come, first served, and it's usually the cheapest ticket in the building.
Is it worth it?
For an adult on a budget who doesn't mind a hard bench, yes. From the lower rows you see the whole stage, and the view is better than the price suggests. There's space to spread out sideways, but the bench is hard on your back by the end.
Not for children
The theatre itself doesn't recommend the Gallery for under-14s, or for anyone who needs back or arm support. If you're bringing children to the panto, book the Stalls instead.
Getting a good spot
Because nothing is reserved, the front benches go to whoever gets there first. The theatre's advice is to arrive when the doors open, 45 to 60 minutes before the show, if you want to sit at the front.
Getting there, bars and toilets
Go in by the side entrance on Wilton Way. There are handrails on the walls and down the central aisles. A lift goes to the Gallery, but there are no wheelchair spaces. There's a bar and an accessible toilet up here.
Gallery FAQs
Can children sit in the Hackney Empire Gallery?
The theatre doesn't recommend it for under-14s. The benches have no backs, and it's steep. For a family, the centre Stalls are the better buy.
