Access and Facilities at Hackney Empire

Opening soon: Jack and The Beanstalk From £12 Book tickets

Hackney Empire has two step-free entrances and a lift to every level. The wheelchair spaces are in the Stalls; the upper levels have steps to every seat.

Access bookings are handled by the venue's own Box Office, not by us. Arrange accessible seats through Hackney Empire's official site before you travel.

Getting in and getting to your seat

  • Mare Street: a step-free entrance straight into the Stalls
  • Wilton Way: a step-free entrance at the side of the building, straight to the lift
  • The lift goes to every level. Ask the front-of-house team when you arrive and they'll take you up
  • Stalls: step-free to the front Stalls seats
  • Dress Circle: 25 steps from the main entrance. Boxes J and K can be reached by lift with no steps; every other seat has at least three
  • Upper Circle: 52 steps, and at least one step to every seat
  • Gallery: 87 steps, unreserved benches with no backs

Wheelchair spaces

There are seven, all at the back of the Stalls. Boxes J and K in the Dress Circle also have level access by lift.

Hearing support

The theatre streams the show's sound to your own phone through a free app. Bring your own headphones, and arrive early to connect.

Accessible performances

Hackney Empire puts on BSL-interpreted, captioned, relaxed and dementia-friendly performances through the year. You'll find the dates on each show's page, including Jack and the Beanstalk.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome. Let the theatre know before your visit.

Bars, bags and the cloakroom

  • There's a bar on every level, open before the show and in the interval. It's card only, and they don't take American Express
  • Bags are checked at the door. Large bags go in the free cloakroom, which closes after the show
  • Bottled water is fine; other food and drink from outside isn't
  • There's an accessible toilet on every level
  • There's no dress code
