Access and Facilities at the Vaudeville Theatre
2 shows on now · From £26 · See shows
This is an old building with no lift. The step-free seats are in the Stalls, reached by a stair climber from the foyer. The Dress Circle and the Grand Circle are stairs only.
Access bookings are handled by the venue's own access team, not by us. Their details are on the theatre's official site.
Getting in and getting to your seat
Come in through the main entrance on the Strand, where the foyer is level with the street, and ask a member of staff for help.
Steps to each level, from the foyer:
- Stalls: 6 steps down, or the stair climber
- Dress Circle: 22 steps up, then three steps between each row, with no handrails inside
- Grand Circle: 54 steps up, on narrow stairs
The staircases have handrails either side.
The stair climber
It takes wheelchair users down the six steps to the Stalls and is operated by trained staff. Maximum wheelchair size is 87.5cm long by 96.5cm wide, footrests excluded, with a 400kg weight limit. Some electric wheelchairs can't go on it, and staff may ask you to move into the theatre's own manual wheelchair.
The climber has to be booked with the access team before you buy tickets. Arrive at least 45 minutes before the show so nobody is rushing.
Wheelchair spaces
There are two wheelchair spaces, at seats M1 and M18 in the Stalls, each with a companion seat beside it. If you'd rather move into a theatre seat, transfers are possible to aisle seats in the Stalls.
The accessible toilet
There's no accessible toilet inside the theatre.
The staff have it covered. They use the facilities at the Adelphi Theatre and at the Strand Palace Hotel, both a few doors along, and someone walks you there and back, with arrangements made if the weather is bad. Say so when you arrive and they'll take care of it. You can also show your ticket at the Adelphi's main entrance and use theirs.
Hearing support
There's a Sennheiser radio hearing system, first come, first served. You can have an in-ear stethoset, or a neckloop to use with headphones, earphones or a hearing aid with a T setting. It isn't Bluetooth, and there's no induction loop.
Signed, captioned and audio-described performances
SIX has regular British Sign Language, captioned and audio-described performances, and the dates are on the SIX page. At signed shows, the seats nearest the interpreter's corner of the stage are held back for people who need a clear view of the signing.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome; let the access team know in advance. If your dog is coming into the auditorium, an aisle seat gives you both more room. Staff can also look after up to two dogs during the performance, if you ask when you book.
Bars and toilets
There are three bars:
- Foyer kiosk, in the Box Office area, level with the street
- Dress Circle bar, the big one, with the SIX shop, 22 steps up and also reachable from the Stalls
- Grand Circle bar, by the entrance to the Grand Circle, 54 steps up
They sell drinks, ice cream and sweets, and there's no hot food. Every bar will refill a water bottle for free. They take cash and contactless. Staff will also bring drinks, snacks and merchandise to anyone who can't make it to a bar.
The toilets, by level:
- Stalls: Ladies
- Dress Circle: Gents, and a gender-neutral toilet next to the bar
- Grand Circle: Ladies and Gents
The accessible toilet arrangement is described above.
Bags and coats
Bags are searched at the door. The small cloakroom takes large bags and suitcases for a small charge, during the performance only, so if you're coming straight off a train, you can bring your case. Space is limited, so don't count on room for several.
