Who Is SIX Best For?
- Anyone who would rather have a gig than a play. There is no interval, no scene changes and no interval bell. Six women, six microphones, a live band and eighty minutes. This is almost more pop concert than musical!
- Anyone with an evening to fill afterwards. It goes up at 8pm and you are back on the Strand by about half past nine, a normal West End night usually ends a lot later.
- Anyone bringing teenagers. Age guidance is 10+, and it is one of the few shows in London that a fourteen-year-old will genuinely want to see, and it's educational!
- Less good for: anyone who wants a story with a plot, and anyone who does not like loud. It is staged as a pop concert and played at that volume.
What Tickets Cost
Seats start from around £35 and run to about £89.50 for the best in the house on a weekend.
The cheapest seats cost the same on a Saturday as they do on a Tuesday, which is not what most people expect. The weekend premium falls entirely on the dearer seats. So if you are buying at the budget end, a weekend costs you nothing extra; if you are buying at the top, midweek saves you about £10 a ticket.

About SIX at the Vaudeville Theatre
It began as a student show. Toby Marlow was in his final year at Cambridge when the university's musical theatre society asked him to write something for the Edinburgh Fringe. He brought in Lucy Moss. It played Sweet Grassmarket in August 2017, cast with students, and sold out. It quickly caught the eye of commercial producers and has transferred to larger venues step by step ever since, even playing a short outdoor run at Hampton Court Palace, Henry VIII's own, in June 2022.
Nine years later it has a Tony Award for Best Score, a Grammy nomination, and a cast recording that was past 250 million streams by 2021. It has been at the Vaudeville since 2021.
It opened on Broadway in October 2021 as the first new musical to get there after the pandemic, its original opening night having been cancelled hours before curtain in March 2020.
Lucy Moss co-directs, and was the youngest woman ever to direct a musical on Broadway.
What Is SIX About?
Six women, one husband, and a competition about whose life was worst.
Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr line up as a pop group and take turns making the case. Henry VIII never comes on. The joke, and the point, is that these women are remembered as one word each in a playground rhyme, and this gives them eighty minutes to answer back.
The songs are the show. Ex-Wives opens it, Don't Lose Your Head is Boleyn's, All You Wanna Do is Howard's, and in Haus of Holbein, even a burst of German techno. Behind them is a live band, on stage rather than in a pit.
Please read the content warning below before booking for a younger teenager.
Performance Schedule
Nine performances most weeks, and almost none of them at standard times for a West End show.
| Day | Matinee | Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | - | no performance |
| Tuesday | - | 8pm |
| Wednesday | - | 8pm |
| Thursday | 4pm | 8pm |
| Friday | - | 8pm |
| Saturday | 4pm | 8pm |
| Sunday | 3pm | 7pm |
Two things to check before you book. The evening show is 8pm, not 7:30pm. And the only weekday matinee is Thursday at 4pm, so a midweek afternoon means a Thursday.
Eighty minutes, no interval. An 8pm performance is out by about 9:20pm.
Best Seats for SIX
The Vaudeville is a straightforward theatre to book well. The rows run straight rather than curving, so nearly every seat looks square at the stage, and every seat in the Stalls has a decent view including the back rows.
Go for the central Stalls, rows D to G, or the first few rows of the Dress Circle. The cheapest good seats are in the Grand Circle and at the pillar ends of Dress Circle row F, where the discount is bigger than the obstruction. The one to refuse is the seat immediately next to the sound desk in the rear Stalls.
Rows, levels and the Boxes are in the Tickets and Best Seats tab, and the full picture is in our Vaudeville Theatre guide. Call 020 7193 9050 and we will match a seat to your budget.
Cast and Creative Team
Adrianne Langley is Catherine of Aragon, Marisha Morgan is Anne Boleyn, Jessica Aubrey is Jane Seymour, Freya Karlettis is Anna of Cleves, Leesa Tulley is Katherine Howard and Nia Stephen is Catherine Parr.

FAQs
Eighty minutes, straight through with no interval. An 8pm performance finishes at about 9:20pm.
8pm on most evenings, and 7pm on Sunday. Matinees are 4pm on Thursday and Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.
No. Monday is the only day it does not play, and it does play on Sunday, which is the reverse of most West End shows.
Age guidance is 10+, and anyone 14 or under must be accompanied by an adult and seated next to them. Read the content warning before booking for a younger teenager.
Strobe lighting, haze and loud music throughout, because it is staged as a pop concert. The songs also cover miscarriage and sexual trauma. Worth reading before booking for a younger teenager.
Both, and that is the point. There is a story and characters, but no scene changes, no interval and no orchestra pit. It is played standing up, into microphones, to a live band.
Ex-Wives, Don't Lose Your Head, All You Wanna Do, Haus of Holbein and Get Down among them. The cast recording had passed 250 million streams by 2021.
No. The show tells you who everyone is in the first five minutes, and the premise works whether or not you can name all six. A little background does help, in the way it helps with Hamilton: most British schoolchildren are taught something about Henry VIII and his wives, which is roughly what the Founding Fathers' story is to an American audience.
Yes. BSL, captioned and audio described dates are scheduled about once a month, well into 2027. Access bookings go through the venue's own team rather than through us.
The Strand is a few steps away and Covent Garden is five minutes. Because the show is out by half nine, you can eat afterwards, which is unusual. There are picks in our Vaudeville Theatre guide.

Tickets and Best Seats for SIX
What this show does to the seat question: less than you might think, and that is good news.
The Vaudeville's rows run in straight lines rather than curving round, so nearly everybody gets a head-on view. The gap between a good seat and a poor one is smaller here than at most West End theatres.
The Stalls. Central rows D to G are the best in the building. The rake is good and the view holds all the way back. The Dress Circle overhangs from about row J and starts to cost you from about row N, but this is a concert-staged show played front and centre, so it costs you less here than it would in a play.
The Dress Circle. The front is excellent and usually cheaper than the equivalent Stalls seat. The pillars at the ends of row F are discounted for an obstruction that takes very little of the stage: you get a hard edge at the side of your view rather than a blocked one.
The Grand Circle is the value level. It runs straight back with no side-on seats, so the view is square, just further away.
Where not to sit. The sound desk takes the middle out of the back three Stalls rows. It blocks nobody, but the seat right beside it puts a lit desk in your eyeline for eighty minutes.
The Boxes sit at the side of the Stalls, level with the back rows. Side-on and some distance back, with a speaker close by. Good for the occasion, not for the sightline.
Prices are in the Overview tab. All-in pricing, and any restricted-view seat is marked before you buy. Call 020 7193 9050 and we will find the right seat for your budget.

SIX Reviews
The critics have been reviewing SIX since 2018, and the notices changed a great deal along the way.
At the start they were warm rather than excited. The Guardian gave it three stars at the Arts Theatre in January 2018 and The Stage did the same. Both liked it and neither predicted what happened next.
One critic did. Dominic Cavendish in the Daily Telegraph, four stars in August 2018, admitted he had arrived expecting an ordeal and left calling it "gloriously, persuasively, coherent, confident and inventive". He finished: "Unlike its hapless subjects, it looks set to have a long and happy life."
By 2020 it was five stars. Alun Hood at WhatsOnStage called the transfer "Six De-luxe".
And at the Vaudeville, Clive Davis in The Times gave it four stars and wrote that the songs are "packaged with a degree of poise and wit that makes juke-box shows such as Jersey Boys look ponderous by comparison." His verdict: "Long may these queens reign."
Every review, with the stars and the dates, is in one place: What the Critics Say.
