Restaurants, Pubs and Hotels Near the Menier Chocolate Factory

The Menier's own restaurant is closed, but Borough Market and the restaurants around it are a few minutes' walk away, and the back streets between have several old pubs. These are our picks. Opening times change, so check before you set out.

• Bar Douro, about 1 minute, in Flat Iron Square on Union Street. Portuguese small plates and wine at a counter under a railway arch, and the closest sit-down meal to the theatre
• Padella, about 5 minutes, at the Borough Market end of Southwark Street. Fresh pasta, quick and good value. It's walk-in only, so get there early and expect a queue
• Tapas Brindisa, about 5 minutes, on Southwark Street. Spanish tapas, always busy, and easy for a group

Drink

• The Lord Clyde, about 3 minutes, on Clennam Street. A back-street pub with a tiled front and jugs hanging from the ceiling, and the nearest pint. It closes early on Sundays
• The Market Porter, about 4 minutes, on Stoney Street in Borough Market. A busy market pub with real ales, where the drinkers spill onto the pavement
• The George Inn, about 5 minutes, off Borough High Street. London's last galleried coaching inn, owned by the National Trust

• citizenM London Bankside, about 4 minutes, on Lavington Street. Small, smartly designed rooms at a sensible price, between the theatre and Tate Modern
• Mercure London Bankside, about 5 minutes, on Southwark Street itself. A four-star hotel on the same street as the theatre, so it's a straight walk back after the show
• Premier Inn London Southwark (Bankside), about 10 minutes, on Park Street. Plain, reliable rooms near the river, a few minutes from Borough Market
