Access and Facilities at the Menier Chocolate Factory
2 shows on now · From £42 · See shows
The Menier is in an old factory building, so there are steps in most places: about five up to the entrance, the bar and the Box Office, a few down into the rows and three down to the toilets. There's a step-free way in on Southwark Street.
Access bookings are handled by the venue, not by us. Book wheelchair and access seats directly with the Menier, in advance, through its official site.
Getting in step-free
The step-free entrance is on Southwark Street, and staff at the O'Meara Street entrance will take you round to it. It's 135cm wide and opens 30 minutes before the show. Arrive at least 30 minutes early so staff can help you in and get you settled.
The wheelchair space
There's one wheelchair space at each performance, at the front of the auditorium, with a seat beside it for a companion. It has to be booked with the venue before your visit. The venue also holds a small number of other access seats for each show, which aren't shown online.
Toilets
The accessible toilet is reached by a step-free entrance on Southwark Street. Its door is 89cm wide. The other toilets are three steps down.
Hearing and sight
There's no hearing loop or infrared system. The theatre is small, though, and the front rows are a few feet from the stage, so ask the venue for seats as close to the front as you can get.
Captioned performances
Captioned performances show the words on your own phone or tablet, so you'll need to bring one. The next is Fourteen Again on Thursday 11 February 2027 at 7:30pm. No signed, audio-described or relaxed performances are listed for the current or next show.
The bar
The bar sells wine, beer, soft drinks, sweet and savoury snacks and Menier chocolate, and takes cash and card. If your show has an interval, you can order your interval drinks before it starts. You can take drinks into the auditorium in the plastic glasses the bar provides, but not glass. The Menier's restaurant is closed.
Bags, coats and the rules
- Bags are checked on the way in, and you need your ticket to get into the building
- There's a small cloakroom behind the Box Office for coats and small bags, for a small charge per item. Large cases and bikes may be turned away
- There isn't a dress code. Wear whatever you're comfortable in
- Age limits are set by each show, so check yours on the show's page
- No photos or recording in the auditorium
Access FAQs
Is the Menier Chocolate Factory wheelchair accessible?
Yes. You come in step-free from Southwark Street, the accessible toilet is step-free too, and the wheelchair space sits at the front. Book with the venue before your visit, because access seats aren't sold online.
