There has been a theatre in the arches under Charing Cross station since the 1860s. Over the years it has been Gatti's-in-the-Arches, a Victorian music hall, then the Players Theatre and the New Players Theatre, and it was renamed Charing Cross Theatre in January 2011. It has been a commercial theatre since 2002, and it still holds the odd Sunday music hall.

What was Charing Cross Theatre called before?

The Players Theatre, for most of the 20th century. It moved here in 1946 and staged Victorian-style music hall until 2002. After a refurbishment it reopened in 2006 as the New Players Theatre, and new owners gave it its current name in 2011.
