Stalls at the Victoria Palace Theatre

Now playing: Hamilton From £24 Book tickets

Rows A to U on the ground floor, 719 seats, the closest you get to the stage. This is the level for most people seeing Hamilton for the first time: it's the best level in the building, and the deepest.

Where we'd put you

Rows F to K, around seats 20 to 29. These are the best seats in the building for most shows. Rows C to G are the ones to pick if you'd rather be close to the faces.

Don't write off the back of the Stalls. The Royal Circle is overhead from row L, yet the whole show stays in view, because Hamilton's raised scenes happen about halfway up the stage, well below the edge of the circle. The overhang just gives the back rows a slight letterbox shape.

On a budget, look at the last pair of seats on each row, sold at second price. The trade is the angle. They're slightly side-on, and in rows B to M the theatre sells them as restricted view for Hamilton, because the set cuts off a little of the stage. What you lose is the action right at the sides, which isn't much of the show, and what you gain is a lower price and a quick way in and out at the end of the row.

What to avoid

Row A, for a first visit. It sits under a high stage, close enough that you lose the performers' feet.

The floor also rises more gently here than at some theatres (the London Palladium's rake is steeper). It's still perfectly good, but a tall person directly in front of you is more of a problem here.

Legroom in the Stalls

Fine for most people up to about 5ft 10. B12 and B39 have nothing in front of them at all, and the aisle seats from row G back give you room to stretch one leg into the aisle.

Getting in, and the steps

Coming in by the main doors on Victoria Street, you go four steps down from the foyer to your row. Allington Street, round the left-hand side of the building as you look at it, has the level entrance, straight into the back of the Stalls, and Stalls Boxes A and F hold the wheelchair spaces. More on the access page.

Drinks and toilets

Like every level, the Stalls have a bar and toilets of their own, with an accessible toilet by the Allington Street door at the rear. Order interval drinks before curtain up and they'll be ready for you.

Stalls FAQs

Are the back rows of the Stalls good at the Victoria Palace Theatre?

For Hamilton, yes. From row P back you lose the very top of the stage under the Royal Circle, which frames the view like a wide screen, but the show keeps its action below that, so you still see everything that matters.

Is the front row of the Stalls worth it?

Only if being close matters more than the full picture. The stage is high, so from row A you're looking up at it and lose the performers' feet. For close seats that still take in the stage, go a few rows back.
