Where to Sit

Ripples plays in the Studio, the smaller of the Bush's two spaces, so every seat is close to the stage. The Bush says audiences often have to cross the stage to reach their seats, one more reason to arrive early.

What's Ripples About?

Finish school, move to the big city, change the world: that's the plan. Then the letter comes, and the van, and he's taken from his family and told he is going to be deported. Lost in a system of surveillance and suspicion, he fights to hold on to who he is and to put the wrong right.

The Bush calls it "an urgent and electrifying interrogation of Britain's treatment of migrants and the relentless power of hope". It's written by Tafadzwa Muchenje, who also performs it, and Rosie MacPherson, who directs. Stand & Be Counted, a company that works with people seeking sanctuary, produces it, and the story is based on true events.

Who's Ripples For?

People who want new political theatre in a small space, and anyone following the debate about how Britain treats migrants. It's for 14 and over. The Bush's content list includes racism, the strain of the immigration system, an immigration-van chase and references to alcohol abuse, and there are loud noises, flashing lights and haze.

Ripples News and Reviews
