Three levels: the Stalls, the First Circle and the Second Circle. Each one has a row of side seats, called slips, running down the walls towards the stage. It was rebuilt for dance in 1998, so there are no pillars and the floor rises well from front to back on every level.
The one thing to understand before you pick a seat
For dance, you want to see the whole stage at once and the dancers' feet, and that means sitting a little further back and higher than you would for a musical. The front rows of the Stalls are flat and below a high stage, so from there you can lose the feet altogether.
Where to sit, by budget
- Best seats: the front of the First Circle, rows A to C. In row A, sit at least two seats in from the aisle
- Next best: the middle of the Stalls from row D back, roughly D to H
- Best value: the front of the Second Circle, rows A to D, and the two small side blocks by row L, which are angled towards the stage with nothing in front but a rail
- Think twice: the Stalls rows in front of row D, the back of the Second Circle if you're tall or don't like heights, and the bar stools in the slips if you need a seat with a back
The levels at a glance
| Level | Rows | Book | Think twice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stalls | Front rows, then A to U | The middle, row D back | In front of row D; the very back, under the circle |
| First Circle | A to M | Rows A to C, the best in the theatre | Row M, partly under the level above |
| Second Circle | A to Q | Rows A to D; the side blocks by row L | The back if you're tall or nervous of heights |
Taller? The best seats for legroom
- Stalls: the most comfortable level, with room for most people up to about 6ft. G4, G30, H3, H32, U4 and U31 have nothing in front of them
- First Circle: rows B to K suit most people up to about 5ft 10. Row A and the back two rows are tighter
- Second Circle: the tightest. Only Q3 and Q31, at the back with nothing in front, have real room
Step-free seating
The three Stalls wheelchair spaces are in row K, and the one in the First Circle is in row M. The Second Circle has a lift to the level but steps to every seat. The access page has the detail.

Seating Plan FAQs
What are the best seats at Sadler's Wells?
For dance, First Circle rows A to C. No rail blocks the view and you see every dancer's feet. The Stalls are second best, and only from row D back.
Is it better to sit in the Stalls or the First Circle for dance?
The First Circle, unless you'd rather be close enough to see faces. Then it's the Stalls, from row D back.
What are the slips?
The single rows of side seats running down the walls of each level towards the stage. They're close, but you see the stage from the side and lose the top of it, and in the two circles the seats nearest the stage are high bar stools without backs.
