By tube

Angel (Northern line) is the nearest station, about five minutes on foot. Head down St John Street and bear right into Rosebery Avenue, and the theatre is a couple of minutes along on the right. There's no step-free access at Angel.

By train

Farringdon (Elizabeth line, Thameslink, and the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) is about a 20-minute walk, or take the 341 bus five stops to the stop right outside the theatre. King's Cross St Pancras is about 20 minutes on foot, or five stops on the 205 or 214 to Angel. Both stations are step-free.

By bus

Three routes stop right outside on Rosebery Avenue, at the stops called Sadler's Wells Theatre:

  • The 19 and 38, between Angel and Holborn
  • The 341, which also links Farringdon to the door

Round the corner, the 153 stops at Rosebery Avenue / Friend Street, a minute away. Angel, four or five minutes' walk, is served by many more: the 4, 30, 43, 56, 73, 205, 214, 274, 394 and 476.

Late at night, the N19, N38 and N41 stop outside the theatre.

By car

Sadler's Wells is inside the Congestion Charge zone, which runs 7am to 6pm on weekdays and midday to 6pm at weekends, £18 a day. Arrive after 6pm for an evening show and you won't pay it, but a matinee falls inside it.

Street parking is free in Hardwick Street and the other streets off Rosebery Avenue after 6:30pm Monday to Friday and from 1:30pm on Saturday. Keep out of the residents' bays, where the fines are heavy. If you want to stay outside the charge zone, the nearest car park is in Parkfield Street, near Angel.

The theatre's own car park, behind the building off Arlington Way, has 15 spaces and is only for groups with someone over 65, which costs £7.50, or a Blue Badge holder, which is free. Spaces are booked through the theatre.

By bike and taxi

There are bike racks outside and opposite the theatre. A cab can set you down at the door on Rosebery Avenue.

What time to arrive

Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before, no later. There are bag searches on the way in, about 1,500 people come through the front doors, and the bars open an hour before the show if you want a drink first.

If you're late, you'll be held outside and let in at a suitable break, which may not be until the interval, and some shows don't let latecomers in at all. There are screens in the foyer to watch until then.
