Peacock Theatre, London
The Peacock Theatre is Sadler's Wells' West End theatre, with a heavy focus on dance productions, on Portugal Street just off Kingsway, five minutes from Holborn station. It's modern and comfortable, with around 1,000 seats on two levels, both below street level, and a lift to each of them. It programmes mostly dance, in runs of a few weeks, and at Christmas it's The Snowman, this year in a brand-new production.

Still choosing seats? The centre of the Stalls, rows D to M, is where we'd sit, with the front of the Dress Circle, rows A to D, close behind. For dance, sit a few rows back rather than in the front row: the stage is often set high, and up close you lose the dancers' feet.
Already booked? The Stalls are two flights down from the foyer and the Dress Circle one, with a lift to both. Bags are searched on the way in, so arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the start. Many shows here run without an interval, and latecomers may have to wait a long time to be let in.
Each level has its own page: the Stalls and the Dress Circle, with both side by side on the seating plan, and a page on the Boxes. After those come how to get here, access, bars and toilets, restaurants, bars and hotels nearby and more about the theatre.

Peacock Theatre FAQs
Is the Peacock Theatre the same as Sadler's Wells?
It's Sadler's Wells' West End theatre, but a different building. Sadler's Wells Theatre is in Islington, near Angel, about half an hour away by tube, so check which one is printed on your ticket before you set off.
What's on at the Peacock Theatre?
Mostly dance, from flamenco and tap to ballet and circus, in runs of a few weeks, so the programme changes often. Every Christmas it's The Snowman, from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 this year.
Is The Snowman on at the Peacock Theatre this Christmas?
Yes, from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, in a new production from Birmingham Rep. It's the theatre's busiest run of the year, and the weekend and holiday matinees sell first.
How many seats does the Peacock Theatre have?
Around 1,000: about 700 in the Stalls and 300 in the Dress Circle, plus four small Boxes.
Can I take young children?
It depends on the show. The theatre generally doesn't admit children under five, and most shows keep to that. The Snowman is the exception: it's for all ages, and everyone from age 2 up needs their own ticket. Under-16s must come with an adult.
How long are the shows, and is there an interval?
It varies, but many shows here are short and play straight through, so check your show's page. The Snowman is 1 hour 30 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
What happens if I'm late?
You'll be held outside and let in at a suitable break, which may not come until the interval. On a show with no interval that can mean watching on the screens in the foyer for a long time, and for some productions latecomers aren't let in at all. There are no refunds or exchanges for late arrival.
Can I take food and drink in?
You can bring your own snacks, but not hot food or packed lunches. Drinks can go in with you in plastic cups or bottles, not glass. The bars on both levels open an hour before the show.
Can I bring a large bag or a suitcase?
No. The cloakroom takes coats and small items for £1 each, but not large bags, suitcases or backpacks, and bags are searched at the door.
Is there a dress code?
No. Wear whatever you're comfortable in.
Is the Peacock Theatre air-conditioned?
No, it isn't air-conditioned, but as a modern theatre it feels light and airy.
Can I book by phone?
Yes. Call us on 020 7193 9050 and a real person will help you choose your seats. For dance, tell us the show and we'll steer you to the rows where you see the whole stage, feet included.
Do you offer group bookings?
Yes. Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we'll find seats together at the best price. For The Snowman, call early: the weekend matinees go first.
Is this the Peacock Theatre in Woking, Dublin or Los Angeles?
No. This is the Peacock Theatre on Portugal Street in London's West End, WC2A 2HT, just off Kingsway between Holborn and Aldwych.
