Access and Facilities at the Dominion Theatre
Now playing: The Devil Wears Prada From £30 Book tickets
The Dominion is well provided for, and it is also a building where the route to your seat changes a lot depending on which seat you have picked. Access bookings and the Access List are handled by the theatre's own access team, not by us.
Getting in and getting to your seat
The Stalls are ten steps down from the main foyer, and a platform lift covers those steps. Its limit is 300kg for chair and occupant together, which means manual chairs and lightweight electric ones. Take the lift out of the equation and the main foyer offers no step-free way into the auditorium at all.
The Nederlander Box is the exception and the only genuinely street-level way in. It has its own side entrance, its own accessible toilet, and room for two wheelchair users and two companions. Booking it online is limited to electric wheelchair users on the Access List, and a manual chair user books it through the access team instead.
There is no lift to the Circle. It is around 32 steps up to the doors between rows G and H, then 21 more down to row A at the front, or roughly three a row up to row Q at the back.
Wheelchair spaces
Three, all at the back of the Stalls: XX50, ZZ47 and ZZ50, with XX49, ZZ46 and ZZ48 as the companion seats that go with them.
Toilets
The accessible one on the Stalls level sits at the front. It takes a RADAR key, and staff will open it if you have not got one.
A second sits at the back of the Circle, but no wheelchair reaches the Circle during a performance, so the Stalls one is the working answer for most people.
Help on the night
- Access hosts are on duty for every performance. They see you to your seat, fetch drinks and snacks, and mind a mobility device or an assistance dog while the show is on
- A wheelchair can be borrowed, but there are only a few, so book it ahead
- Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere including the auditorium and sit under the seat. The theatre notes that the sound levels in a large musical make some owners prefer to have staff look after the dog instead
- Sennheiser radio receivers come from the Box Office and work either with headphones or with a neckloop for the T setting
The Access List
It is open to anyone who is disabled under the Equality Act 2010 and takes about five working days to process, so apply well before you want to book.
Concession rates and companion tickets are set by each show rather than the theatre, so they change when the show changes.
Blue Badge parking
There is no parking at the theatre. The nearest bays are Stephen Street at 260m (two), Percy Street at 300m (two), Carlisle Street at 350m (one), Coptic Street at 400m (one) and Berners Street at 450m (one). NCP London Shaftesbury, 450m away, has four disabled bays.
Bars, and which are best for you
Six bars, and the one to head for depends on where you are sitting.
- The foyer bar is on the right as you come in, level from the street
- The back-of-Stalls bar is step free
- The Premier Bar sits below the Stalls, and how you get there depends on which end you start from: level from the front of the Stalls, 14 stairs down from the back. Go the front way
- The Champagne Bar and the two Circle foyer bars are all on the Circle level, up the 19 stairs
There is a Coffee Parlour on the Stalls level, and merchandise on both levels.
The cloakroom and photography
The cloakroom is on the Circle level, £2 an item, and opens about 45 minutes before the performance. It is upstairs from the Stalls, so factor in the climb if you are sitting downstairs and carrying a coat.
Photography is strictly prohibited throughout.
Access FAQs
Is the Dominion Theatre wheelchair accessible?
The Stalls are, by platform lift from the main foyer, with a 300kg limit covering chair and occupant. There are three wheelchair spaces at the back of the Stalls, each with a companion seat. The Nederlander Box has level access straight from the street through its own side entrance.
Is there a lift to the Circle?
No. Everything above the Stalls is stairs, roughly 32 of them before your row adds any more. If stairs are a problem, book the Stalls, which the platform lift covers and which we would recommend anyway.
