Restaurants, Bars and Hotels Near Wyndham's Theatre
Opening soon: John Proctor Is the Villain Book tickets
Wyndham's sits where Leicester Square, Soho, Chinatown and Covent Garden meet, so almost every restaurant, pub and hotel below is inside ten minutes. The one steer worth giving: walk off Charing Cross Road itself. The street outside the door is traffic and chain coffee, and two minutes in any direction is where you want to be. Opening times change, so check before you set out.
Restaurants
Four Seasons (4 minutes). 12 Gerrard Street, Chinatown. A Cantonese restaurant where the roast duck is the dish to order. Tables turn over quickly, so it's the safe choice when you haven't booked and curtain up is less than an hour away.
The Ivy (3 minutes). 1-5 West Street. The theatreland institution, feeding theatre audiences since 1929, and it knows exactly what a pre-theatre table needs. Book ahead, ask for an early one, and you can settle up and be in your seat in five minutes.
Bancone (5 minutes). Covent Garden. The pasta is made by hand and priced for an ordinary night out, not a special occasion. No booking? Get there early, because it keeps space for walk-ins.
Hawksmoor Seven Dials (6 minutes). 11 Langley Street. Some of the best steak in London, in a big, handsome basement. The early evening menu is built for this, but go on a night when you're not watching the clock.
Bars and pubs
The Round Table (2 minutes). St Martin's Court. The closest proper pub, tucked down a pedestrian alley, and the right answer when you just want a pint before the show.
Mr Fogg's Tavern (2 minutes). St Martin's Lane. Victorian-themed over two floors, cheerfully daft, and about as close as you can get for a cocktail before the show.
The Salisbury (3 minutes). 90 St Martin's Lane. Come for the engraved glass and brass of its Victorian bar, even if you only stay for one. From about an hour before the show it's packed, so beat the rush.
Swift Soho (7 minutes). Old Compton Street. Two bars in one: the ground floor is quick and made for a drink before curtain, and downstairs is darker and better afterwards.
Hotels
Radisson Blu Hotel, London Leicester Square (3 minutes). Leicester Square. Reliable, mid-range, and about as central as a bed in London gets. The easy choice if you're booking a room and tickets together.
The Z Hotel Soho (5 minutes). 17 Moor Street. What you're booking is the five-minute walk back after the curtain comes down. Expect a compact room.
The Resident Soho (8 minutes). 10 Carlisle Street. Every room has a mini-kitchen, which helps if you're staying more than one night, and the prices are gentle for a Soho address.
The Strand Palace (8 minutes). Strand, towards the river. A well-priced classic that has been putting theatregoers up for a century.
