Access and Facilities at the Piccadilly Theatre

Now playing: Moulin Rouge! The Musical From £30 Book tickets

The Piccadilly was built in 1928, so step-free access is limited, but it is available through the Sherwood Street side entrance. The wheelchair spaces are in the Stalls, reached by lift from that entrance.

Access bookings are handled directly by the venue's own access team, not by us. Get in touch with them through the theatre's official site to arrange an accessible booking and to confirm the step-free route on arrival.

Getting in and getting to your seat

The main entrance is on Denman Street. For step-free access, use the Sherwood Street side entrance and let a member of staff know. It leads straight into the auditorium, which opens 30 minutes before the performance, so arrive between 30 and 15 minutes before the start.

Steps to each level from the main foyer:

  • Stalls: 22 steps down, with no handrails
  • Royal Circle: 26 steps up, with handrails
  • Grand Circle: 70 steps up, with handrails and no lift

In the Royal Circle, row A at the high-numbered end can be reached without steps, and rows B to D on that side need only a few.

Wheelchair and transfer seating

There are three wheelchair spaces, all in the Stalls, in rows D, K and N, reached by the platform lift from the Sherwood Street entrance, each with a companion seat. If you'd rather transfer to a theatre seat, Royal Circle A28 is the transfer seat; mention it when you book, and bring a companion if you need help transferring. Wheelchairs are stored during the show and brought back at the end. The Can Can tables aren't wheelchair accessible.

Accessible toilets

There's an accessible toilet in the Champagne Bar at Stalls level, the same level as the wheelchair spaces, and a further one at street level by the Sherwood Street entrance.

Hearing support

Sennheiser MobileConnect wifi amplification is available: borrow a device on the day or use the app on your own phone. There's also an induction-loop necklace (switch your hearing aid to the T setting) and a headset for anyone not using a hearing aid.

Captioned, signed and audio-described performances

Accessible performances are scheduled through the year, and the dates are on the show page.

Assistance dogs

Guide, hearing and other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre.

Bars

There's a bar on every level, open 90 minutes before the show. The Stalls bar in the basement is small, so order interval drinks before the show to skip the crush, or order drinks and snacks to your seat, usually by scanning a QR code. The Piano Bar has live music before the show.

Toilets on every level

  • Stalls: 8 steps down from the entrance to the auditorium
  • Royal Circle: the Ladies are 8 steps up from the bar, the Gents 15 steps down and then 7 up
  • Grand Circle: the Ladies are on the way up, the Gents at the top by the Grand Circle Bar

Bags and coats

Bags are checked at the door and the theatre can refuse suitcases and large items. The cloakroom takes coats, bags and rucksacks for a small charge and opens 90 minutes before the show.

Other facilities

  • Box Office: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7:30pm; closed on Sunday
  • Payment: card only, for everything bought inside
  • Food: cold food in a plastic container can come in
  • Programmes and merchandise: from kiosks before the show, at the interval and afterwards
  • Free guest wifi, and the auditorium is air-conditioned

Access FAQs

Is the Piccadilly Theatre wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The step-free entrance is on Sherwood Street, and a lift from there serves the three wheelchair spaces in the Stalls. Access bookings are handled by the venue's own access team.
