Gielgud Theatre, London
The Gielgud Theatre stands on the corner of Shaftesbury Avenue and Rupert Street, two minutes from Piccadilly Circus. It holds 991 people across three levels and seven Boxes, and Oliver! plays here.
Still choosing seats? To be close, book the middle of the Stalls, rows F to N. To see the whole stage, book the centre of the Dress Circle, rows A to D, and rows D to F are where its prices drop. The Grand Circle is the cheap level and 60 steps up. The Boxes lose too much of the stage to be worth it.
Already booked? Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before the show, because there are bag checks on the way in.

Gielgud Theatre FAQs
How many seats does the Gielgud Theatre have?
991, including the seven Boxes. The Stalls hold just over half of them.
Is the John Gielgud Theatre the same place?
Yes. The Gielgud Theatre is named after the actor Sir John Gielgud, and it's the same theatre, on the corner of Shaftesbury Avenue and Rupert Street.
What time does Oliver! finish at the Gielgud?
Oliver! runs about 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. A 7:30pm show on Wednesday to Saturday finishes at about 10:10pm, the Tuesday 7pm show at about 9:40pm, and the 2:30pm matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at about 5:10pm. Oliver!'s own page has the full schedule.
Is there a dress code?
No. Jeans and trainers are fine. There really is no need to dress up, but there's no issue in dressing up. Wear what you feel comfortable in.
Can I take water or snacks in?
No food or drink bought anywhere else, and that includes a bottle of water picked up on the way. The bars sell drinks and snacks, but no hot food, and the theatre is cashless, so bring a card.
Is the theatre air conditioned?
Yes. It should not get too hot or too cold. Bring a jumper anyway, because they sometimes turn the cooling up and it can get chilly.
Can I bring children, and are there booster seats?
Yes, and Oliver! draws a lot of families. Everyone needs their own ticket whatever their age, children under three aren't admitted, and anyone under 16 has to sit next to an adult aged 18 or over. The Stalls suit children because the stage is closest, though the first four rows are a stretch for a small child given how high the stage sits.
Booster seats are available. Ask for one in the foyer before the show, rather than waiting until you are in your seat. It matters here because the rake in the Stalls does not really build until about row K, so without a booster a small child in the front half spends the evening looking at the back of a head.
Where is the Box Office?
At the theatre, open from two and a half hours before the performance until fifteen minutes after it starts, and through the day between shows on matinee days. Delfont Mackintosh also run a central box office at the Sondheim Theatre, midday to 6pm Monday to Saturday. You don't need either to buy: book with us online or by phone.
Can I book by phone?
Yes. Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we will talk through the seats before you book. The price we tell you is the price you pay.
