Restaurants, Bars and Hotels Near the Gielgud Theatre
Now playing: Oliver! From £24 Book tickets
The Gielgud sits on the edge of Soho with Chinatown a couple of streets south, so almost everything worth eating is within ten minutes. Rupert Street, the theatre's own side street, has two of the best pubs on this list.
Restaurants near the Gielgud Theatre
Bocca di Lupo (2 to 3 minutes). 12 Archer Street. Regional Italian small plates and the best food this close to the theatre. Book it, because everybody else has.
Viet Food (3 to 4 minutes). 34-36 Wardour Street. Vietnamese and quick, and the answer when you're short of time but still want to sit down and eat properly.
Preto (3 to 4 minutes). 73 Shaftesbury Avenue. A Brazilian rodizio, where the meat keeps coming until you turn your card over, so you set the pace before curtain-up. Good for a hungry group.
Wong Kei (3 to 4 minutes). 41-43 Wardour Street. Chinatown's big, cheap standby, several floors deep and open until half eleven. Service is fast enough to eat properly and still be early for Oliver!.
Flat Iron Piccadilly (3 minutes). 21 Denman Street. Steak at a fixed low price, and you can book, which takes the guesswork out of a pre-show dinner.
Bars and pubs
The Blue Posts (2 minutes). 28 Rupert Street. A proper pub, and the closest one to the door.
Waxy O'Connor's (2 minutes). 14-16 Rupert Street. On the theatre's own side street. A big Irish pub over several floors built around a tree, and large enough to absorb a pre-theatre crowd, which most Soho pubs are not.
O'Neill's (3 minutes). 33-37 Wardour Street. Lively, and the natural place to end up after the show rather than before it.
Tom Cribb (5 minutes). 36 Panton Street. Named after a Regency prize-fighter, and one of the few pubs round here still pouring after the show comes down.
Hotels
Montcalm Piccadilly Townhouse (3 to 4 minutes). 65-73 Shaftesbury Avenue. The same street as the theatre. Listed under its old name, The Piccadilly London West End, on some booking sites.
W London (3 minutes). Leicester Square. Loud, stylish and built for a late night, so it suits a group making an evening of it.
The Londoner (5 minutes). Leicester Square. Five stars, a spa and six places to eat and drink of its own, useful if half the party is not coming to the show.
hub by Premier Inn London Soho (6 minutes). Hopkins Street. Small, well-kept rooms at the low end of what central Soho costs.
The Z Hotel Piccadilly (6 to 7 minutes). 2 Orange Street. Compact modern rooms at a sensible price, which is the point if you are out at the theatre anyway.
