Restaurants, Bars and Hotels Near the Fortune Theatre

The Fortune is in the middle of Covent Garden, so everything is a few minutes away, and a lot of what's closest is aimed at tourists. The restaurants, pubs and hotels below are the ones we'd point you to, most of them one street off the Piazza. Times are from the theatre door.

Restaurants

Jamie Oliver Catherine Street (2 minutes). 6 Catherine Street, just down the road. British cooking with a pre-theatre menu, and close enough to finish dessert without watching the clock.

Town (5 minutes). 29 Drury Lane. Stevie Parle's restaurant and bar, cooking British produce. It does a quick dinner menu, which is the one to ask for on a show night.

Frog by Adam Handling (5 minutes). Southampton Street. The best cooking within five minutes of the theatre, and the one to book if you're marking something.

Bars and pubs

Nell of Old Drury (2 minutes). 29 Catherine Street. The theatre pub, opposite Drury Lane. The current building is 1720 and there has been an inn here since 1423, with a tunnel under the road that Charles II is said to have used to visit Nell Gwynn.

The White Hart (5 minutes). Drury Lane. It calls itself the oldest licensed premises in London, and it takes bookings.

Lamb & Flag (6 minutes). Rose Street. An old Covent Garden pub down an alley, small and usually full.

The Porterhouse (6 minutes). 21-22 Maiden Lane. One of the largest bars in central London, over three floors, and one of the few places near the Fortune that can take a crowd without a wait.

Hotels

NoMad London (2 minutes). 28 Bow Street. In the old Bow Street Magistrates Court, opposite the Royal Opera House. The luxury choice, and barely round the corner.

The Resident Covent Garden (5 to 7 minutes). Bedford Street. Compact rooms with small kitchens, and the sensible choice at a sensible price.

The Z Hotel Covent Garden (6 minutes). 31-32 Bedford Street. Compact rooms at a low price, and the position does the rest.
