Boxes at Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Drury Lane sells most of its Boxes, depending on the show. They sit at Royal Circle and Grand Circle level, and they're about having your own private space rather than the best view. For the view at similar money, we'd book a seat in the centre instead.
The King's Box and the Prince's Box
The premium picks are the named Prince's and King's Boxes, at the sides of the Royal Circle, between the seats and the stage. They might not offer the very best view, but they're the most plush. The catch is the angle. You're looking at the stage from the side, a noticeable part of it is out of sight, and they're sold as slightly restricted. Those who watch British television will recognise the Prince's Box from Michael McIntyre's Big Show on the BBC.
Above them, at Grand Circle level, are the Grand King's Box and the Grand Prince's Box: a similar view from higher up, reached by a fairly steep staircase.
Boxes A, J, K and L
Beside the named Boxes, A and J at Royal Circle level and K and L at Grand Circle level have an even sharper angle on the stage, and you'll be leaning to see much of it.
Boxes B to H, across the back of the Royal Circle
A row of Boxes runs across the back of the Royal Circle, seating two to four. What you see is much the same as from the back rows of the Royal Circle, a wide but shallow strip of stage, so book them for having your own space rather than for the sightline. Boxes G and H are often held for groups.
What we'd book instead
For the view, at similar money: the centre of the Stalls, rows F to K, or the front of the Royal Circle, rows B to E. Either shows you the whole stage, which no side Box does. Spending less? A seat at the front of the Grand Circle shows more of the stage than any Box does, and costs a good deal less.
When we'd book a Box
A birthday, an anniversary or a small group who'd rather have their own space than the best angle. Book it knowing the view is side-on or set back, and it does that job well. All the chairs are movable, so legroom is whatever you make it.
Are Boxes on sale for every show?
No. It depends on the production, and for Jesus Christ Superstar none of the Boxes are on sale. Call us on 020 7193 9050 and we'll tell you what's available on your date.
Boxes FAQs
Are the Boxes worth it at Theatre Royal Drury Lane?
For the privacy, yes; for the view, no. Every Box here is either side-on or at the back of its level, so a centre seat downstairs will always show you more of the show.
Which Box was on Michael McIntyre's Big Show?
The Prince's Box. It's one of the pair at Royal Circle level.
