Boxes at the Old Vic
The Old Vic has two Boxes, the Atkins Box and the Benthall Box, one on each side at Dress Circle level. You reach them through the Dress Circle doors, 29 steps up, and Box holders use the Dress Circle bar and the toilets on the Baylis Circle level, another 12 steps up.
Should you book one?
In The Round, the Boxes put you close to the action and looking down on it, and they're an unusual place to watch a show from. The Atkins Box has two parts: seats at the front, which are very cramped for anyone over about 5ft 6, and a raised bench behind them looking steeply down on the stage.
They suit a small group who'd like to sit together somewhere a bit different and don't mind a squeeze or a bench. Not every production puts the Boxes on sale, so check the plan for your date.
Better seats for the money
The side rows of the Dress Circle, on the same level, look down on the stage from close by and have proper seats. For a straight-on view, the main Stalls block, as close as you can afford.
