What It Is

A tribute concert, not a musical. Performers take the parts of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and play the songs in order with a full band, while projected photos and film footage tell the story. It's written and directed by Dean Elliott.

It's played the West End more than 20 times, the London Palladium included, and tours the UK and abroad in between. Art Garfunkel himself once walked on stage at the end of a performance in New York to tell the cast it was a great show.

Their Story

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel met at school in Forest Hills, Queens, in 1953, when they were both in a school play of Alice in Wonderland. As teenagers they called themselves Tom & Jerry and had a small hit, Hey Schoolgirl, in 1957.

In 1965 a remixed version of The Sound of Silence went to number one in America. Mrs Robinson followed in The Graduate, and in January 1970 came Bridge Over Troubled Water, one of the best-selling albums ever made. They split up the same year. In 1981 they got back together for a free concert in Central Park, which drew a crowd of around half a million. The show tells that story, song by song.

The Songs

The hits, in roughly the order they came out, plus a few early ones you may not know. Songs reviewers have heard in the show include:

  • Hey Schoolgirl
  • The Sound of Silence
  • Leaves That Are Green
  • I Am a Rock
  • Homeward Bound
  • Scarborough Fair
  • Mrs Robinson
  • America
  • Cecilia
  • Bridge Over Troubled Water
  • The Boxer, saved for the encore

Who It's For

Anyone who grew up with the records, or with parents who played them. It's an evening of songs you already know.

A good night out for a group or a birthday. It's on a Monday, so getting a table beforehand is easy.

Not for you if you want the real Simon & Garfunkel. This is a tribute show.

Where to Sit

The Palladium is big, with around 2,300 seats over three levels, but it's wide rather than deep, so most seats feel close. For a concert, the middle of the Stalls or the front of the Royal Circle is where to be. The full seat-by-seat guide is in our London Palladium guide.

What the Reviews Said

West End Wilma gave the show five stars when it played the Lyric Theatre in 2018: "Fans of the artists will not be disappointed as this is far more than a tribute act. It is an evening of pure joy."

LondonTheatre1 gave it four at the Vaudeville the same year, praising "an extremely good band" and a finish to "a standing ovation and resounding cheers".

Those reviews saw different performers, so they tell you about the show rather than this cast.
