Where to Sit

Miss Bennet plays in the Park200, the bigger of Park Theatre's two auditoria. Tickets are sold in price bands, and the dearer bands are the more central seats. For the cheapest way in, pick one of the December matinees.

What's Miss Bennet About?

It's Christmas at Pemberley, Mr Darcy's estate, and Elizabeth has invited the whole Bennet family to stay. Elizabeth and Jane are happily married. Mary, the middle sister, is still the bookish one at the piano that nobody expects much from.

Then Lord Arthur de Bourgh turns up for Christmas, and for the first time someone takes Mary seriously. The play follows what she does with that.

It's written by the American playwrights Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, and this is its first production in the UK.

Do I Need to Know Pride and Prejudice?

No. The Park says it's for people "returning to Austen or meeting the Bennets for the first time", and the play sets up who everyone is. If you know the book or one of the adaptations, you'll get more of the jokes about the family, and you'll know Lord Arthur is related to Lady Catherine de Bourgh, the one who tried to stop Elizabeth marrying Darcy.

Who's It For?

Anyone who loves Austen, and anyone looking for a Christmas play that isn't a panto. It's for ages 12 and up, so it works for a family trip with older children, or as a night out for two in the run-up to Christmas.

If Austen is your thing, the improvised Austentatious at the Vaudeville makes up a new "lost" Austen novel at every show, from a title the audience suggests.

Miss Bennet News and Reviews

This is the play's UK premiere. It starts previews on 2 December, and the press night is Tuesday 8 December, so reviews will follow that week. In the US it has had a sell-out run in Chicago.

Cast and Creative Team

The cast and director haven't been announced yet.

The play is by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. They wrote it as the first of three Christmas plays set at Pemberley, and it was first staged in the US in 2016. Park Theatre co-produces this production with Adam Blanshay Productions, the same team behind the Park's Christmas show last year, Dracapella.

Getting to Park Theatre

Park Theatre is on Clifton Terrace, N4 3JP, about two minutes' walk from Finsbury Park station (Victoria and Piccadilly lines, plus Thameslink and other trains). Use the City North Place exit, turn right, right again onto Wells Terrace, then left onto Clifton Terrace, and the theatre is on your left. From the Station Place exit it takes about four minutes longer.

The 210, W3 and W7 buses stop by the station on the Stroud Green Road side, about a minute's walk away. The 4, 19, 29, 106, 153, 236, 253, 254, 259 and 310 stop at Finsbury Park Interchange on Seven Sisters Road, two or three minutes away.

There's no car park, and parking nearby is very limited, so the tube is the easy way in. More in our Park Theatre guide.
