By tube

  • Marble Arch (Central line) is the nearest, about 2 to 3 minutes. The station is across the road, and you reach the island by the pedestrian crossings.
  • Bond Street (Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines), about 13 minutes' walk along Oxford Street.
  • Lancaster Gate (Central line), about 19 minutes on foot, or one stop to Marble Arch.

By train

Paddington is the nearest main-line station, about 25 minutes on foot, but the 7, 23 and 36 buses run direct. From Marylebone it's about 22 minutes' walk. For the Elizabeth line, Bond Street is the closest stop.

By bus

Buses call at stops all round the island, 16 routes in the daytime, each a couple of minutes from the theatre. Which bus depends on where you're coming from:

  • From the north (Baker Street, St John's Wood, Swiss Cottage, Kilburn): the 6, 13, 98, 113, 189 and 274
  • From Camden, Euston and King's Cross: the 205, 274 and 390
  • From the west (Paddington, Notting Hill, Shepherd's Bush): the 7, 23, 36, 94 and 148
  • From the south (Victoria, Knightsbridge, Pimlico, Clapham): the 2, 6, 36, 74, 137, 148 and 390
  • Along Oxford Street from the east: the 7, 13, 94, 98 and 390
  • From the City and Liverpool Street: the 205

The 139 stops a little further away on Orchard Street, by Selfridges. Late at night, the N2, N7, N32, N74, N98, N137 and N207 run from the same stops.

By taxi

Black cabs pass the island all day and night on Park Lane, Oxford Street and Edgware Road, so one is rarely far away after the show.

By car

Q-Park Marble Arch is the car park to use. It's under Hyde Park, you drive in from Cumberland Gate, it never closes, and it's outside the Congestion Charge zone. On the way back up, take the step-free exit on the Marble Arch side, because the ramp to the street is steep.

The theatre's postcode, W1H 7DX, is an old one that some sat-navs won't find, so set your destination as Marble Arch or the car park instead. The ULEZ applies across London at all hours if your car doesn't meet its standards.

What time should I arrive?

Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before, no later. Everyone goes through a security check at the door, so allow a little extra time to get in. With no cloakroom, there's nothing to drop off, but the bar queue in the foyer can slow the walk to the side doors.

If you're late, you'll be let in at a suitable break in the performance, but that isn't guaranteed, and each show sets its own policy.
