About The Arts at Marble Arch

The Arts at Marble Arch is the temporary home of the Arts Theatre, the theatre on Great Newport Street near Leicester Square, which opened in 1927 and has closed for a major refurbishment. Rather than let its programme stop, the Arts Theatre's team, HH Productions, run by Louis Hartshorn and Brian Hook, built this theatre on the island at Marble Arch to keep it going.

How it was built

Westminster Council gave planning permission in December 2025, and the theatre went up in the first half of 2026. The architects were Reed Watts, and OSMO Projects built it. The building is about 10 metres high, an aluminium frame wrapped in strips of recycled fabric, with the stage at the western end and stacked shipping containers around it for the dressing rooms, offices and toilets. Inside, the seats rise in a single bank towards a 17-metre-wide stage.

It isn't the first theatre on the island: in 2017 and 2018 a temporary theatre called the Marble Arch Theatre was built here for Five Guys Named Moe.

What has played here

The Choir of Man, which played the Arts Theatre from 2021 until January 2026, comes back to London here from 10 December 2026.
