By tube
Use the Argyll Street exit at Oxford Circus. The station has several, and the right one puts you about 40 metres from the door. The wrong one puts you on the far side of one of the busiest junctions in London.
| Station | Walk | Lines |
|---|---|---|
| Oxford Circus | 1 to 2 min | Central, Bakerloo, Victoria |
| Bond Street | 8 to 10 min | Central, Jubilee, Elizabeth |
| Tottenham Court Road | 10 to 12 min | Central, Northern, Elizabeth |
Oxford Circus is not step-free. Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street are.
By train
Victoria, Charing Cross, Euston, King's Cross St Pancras and Paddington all connect quickly to Oxford Circus. From Paddington or Liverpool Street, the Elizabeth line to Bond Street or Tottenham Court Road is the easy way in.
By bus
Three sets of stops, all two or three minutes' walk from the door:
- Oxford Circus Station, on Oxford Street and Regent Street by the Circus: 12, 22, 88, 94, 139 and 159
- Oxford Street, just east of the Circus by Great Titchfield Street: 55, 73, 98 and 390
- Regent Street, just south of the Circus by Hamleys: 88, 94, 159 and 453
Oxford Street bus routes are being changed as the street is remodelled, so if the bus is your main plan rather than your backup, check TfL on the day.
By car
The Congestion Charge and ULEZ both apply. The nearest Theatreland car park is Q-Park Soho on Poland Street, a few minutes' walk away, and it's cheaper pre-booked. If you're being dropped off or taking a taxi, Argyll Street and Great Marlborough Street are the drop-off points.
What time to arrive
Arrive 20 to 25 minutes before, no later. That's a little earlier than we would tell you for most theatres: it is a big theatre with bag checks and a small foyer, and it is a beautiful and historic building to walk around before you sit down.
The Stalls, Royal Circle and Grand Circle have separate entrances, which makes a 2,292-seat theatre much easier to get into than its size suggests. Go to your own entrance first and explore afterwards. In the Grand Circle, check your seat number too: most seats there are a climb of 67 or 72 steps, so allow a few extra minutes.
If you're late, you won't be let straight in. Latecomers are held until a suitable break in the performance, which can be the interval, so at a show this size it's worth the extra few minutes.
