Olivier Award-winning actress Maureen Lipman and The Simpson's Harry Shearer star in Oliver Cotton's Daytona which is set to make its West End premiere at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited 8 week run from 28 June to 23 August 2014.
Under the direction of David Grindley, Lipman makes her Theatre Royal Haymarket debut by reprising her role in Daytona as Elli.
As a member of Laurence Olivier's Royal National Theatre Company, Lipman is no stranger to the theatre. Her extensive theatre credits include When We Are Married (Garrick Theatre), A Little Night Music (Menier Chocolate Factory), Aladdin (Old Vic), Old Money and Peggy For You (Hampstead Theatre).
Perhaps best known for his voice-work for The Simpsons (Mr Burns, Principal Skinner and Ned Flanders), this also marks a debut for Harry Shearer as he reprises his role as Joe in this West End staging.
His body work in film and television include the cult classic This is Spinal Tap, The Truman Show, Saturday Night Live, and The Big Uneasy, a multi-award winning documentary investigating the actual causes of the 2005 flooding of New Orleans. As a theatre performer in the US, his credits include Loose Lips, Tinkle Time and Accomplice.
Lipman and Shearer play a couple who share a love of ballroom dancing and are practising their routines for the next big competition. But then unexpectedly, Joe's long-lost brother Billy bursts back into their lives with an extraordinary story to tell.
Gripping, funny, poignant and full of mystery, Daytona is a play with not just one but two love stories at its heart.
The Press Night for Daytona at the Theatre Royal Haymarket is on 7 July 2014.
