Armitage is a popular actor known for his television roles in North and South, Spooks, Robin Hood, Strike Back, The Vicar of Dibley and the BBC’s Macbeth opposite James McAvoy and Keeley Hawes. While his movie roles include playing Thorin Oakenshield in J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit and as the villain Heinz Kruger in Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans.
He's also a respected theatre actor having been a part of plays such as The Duchess of Malfi, Macbeth for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Hamlet at the Birmingham Rep.
Rounding up the cast of The Crucible are Anna Madeley as Elizabeth Proctor, Samantha Colley as Abigail Williams, Sarah Niles as Tituba, Rebecca Saire as Ann Putnam, and Zara White as Mercy Lewis.
The Crucible runs at the Old Vic Theatre along with other shows in London from 24 June to 13 September 2014.
