[NEWS] New Cast Announcement for Once at the Phoenix Theatre

Taking the lead roles of Guy and Girl in the multi-awarded production of Once at the Phoenix Theatre starting 12 May 2014 are David Hunter and Jill Winternitz.

Fans of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Superstar on ITV might be familiar with Hunter as he was a semi-finalist in the show, vying for the role of Jesus in another London musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.

His theatre credits include One Man Two Guvnors at the National Theatre, on the UK tour and at the Adelphi Theatre, Seussical at the Arts Theatre, The Who’s Tommy at the Prince Edward Theatre,The Hired Man at the Leicester Curve, Spinach and Love Shift at The Royal Exchange in Manchester, and Moving On at The Lowry in Manchester.

Aside from being an actor, he's also an accomplished musician. As the frontman of pop/rock back Reemer, he's worked with some of the best producers in the industry. The band has also played alongside other musical acts such as The Feeling, Scouting for Girls, and McFly.

Winternitz who's taking over the role of Girl from Zrinka Cvitesic was a student at the UCLA and the Moscow Art Theatre School before training in the UK at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her West End debut as Baby in Dirty Dancing at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Her other theatre credits include A Handful of Soil at the Drayton Theatre, The Seagull at the Moscow Art Theatre School and Sunday in the Park with George at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Rounding up the cast for Once are Fiona Bruce (Baruska), Jamie Cameron (Emcee), Mark Carlisle (Da), Matthew Ganley (Svec), Mathew Hamper (Andre), Daniel Healy (Eamon), Loren O’Dair (Reza), Miria Parvin (Ex-girlfriend), Tim Prottey-Jones (Billy) and Jez Unwin (Bank Manager). Alternating the role of Girl’s young daughter Ivanka will be Juliana Cotton, Demi Lee, Gemma Loader and Ruby Payne.

Once is one of the most beloved London musical, winning multiple awards at the recently concluded Olivier Awards including the first ever recipient of the Olivier for Outstanding Achievement in Music.

It's also received eight Tony awards including Best Musical and the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album. In addition Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova’s Falling Slowly won the Oscar for Best Original Song from the movie for which the musical was based.

Directed by John Tiffany, the West End production of Once opened in April 2013 and is currently booking at the Phoenix Theatre to 4 July 2015.
